Can other animals besides cattle and deer get bovine TB?
Bovine TB has the ability to infect a wide range of species including humans, most mammals, and some birds. It is transmitted primarily through direct contact with an infected animal and its respiratory secretions. It can also be transmitted between animals by eating or drinking food or water contaminated with the bacteria. Studies have shown that coyotes and other canines are susceptible to bovine TB but they are considered a “dead-end host.” Cattle producers should not be concerned about their herd catching TB from coyotes, wolves, or wild birds.
