Windows Vista and Seven install dozens of fonts for international scripts that you do not necessarily need if you never read or write text in multiple languages. Many of these fonts are under the protection of the system and cannot be deleted. But with OT1 Font Manager, you can deactivate the fonts that you do not need, so that they become invisible to Windows and to all the applications. The short information in the Sample pane includes scripts hints, to help you select the fonts that you may not need.
