Yes, Cornell is an excellent place to study dance in a liberal arts setting. The Dance Program in the Department of Theatre, Film & Dance emphasizes dance in the context of a liberal arts education, offering courses in modern dance, western classical dance, movement exploration, improvisation, composition, history, anatomy, dance technology, and music resources. The technique curriculum focuses on modern dance and its integration with western classical dance and other movement forms. The six faculty members collectively have wide-ranging professional experience coupled with degrees in anthropology, dance, European history, French literature, and mathematics; they encourage interdisciplinary approaches to dance. There are 100-150 students in dance courses, 15-30 dancers in Dance Program performances, and 4-10 dance majors, most of whom are double majors. Majors are awarded a B.A. in Dance.
