Can one obtain an agent without any acting experience?
Answer Hi Dakota, It is unlikely that one can obtain an agent without any experience or training. There are exceptions to that (babies and children or the odd time when an agent is looking for someone with a very unique and different look where acting and knowledge of the business isn’t a factor) but generally that’s not the case. Agents aren’t paid by the actor. They take a percentage (generally 10%) of what their clients earn on jobs that they get them. So if their clients don’t work, the agent doesn’t make any money. And since most directors and casting directors want to hire actors who not only have talent, but also training, experience and a knowledge of the business, how to act on a set, how to deal with the camera or in rehearsal – in short, someone who is a professional – most agents will only accept clients who can fullfill that expectation. In addition, since their livelihood depends on their clients’ ability and hireability, agents seldom accept clients who they have not see
