Can older children be traumatized by seeing their mother breastfeed a baby?
Everyone grows up in a different environment and culture. For the majority of people in the world, breastfeeding is such a natural part of life that very few people even think about it. Women breastfeed everywhere they go. Breasts are for feeding babies, and of course, babies go everywhere and eat everywhere with their moms. Children who grow up with breastfeeding as the norm never think a thing of it either. Everyone breastfeeds, and they expect they will too someday. Obviously your husband did not grow up with breastfeeding as the norm. You two need to talk and really discuss this issue so that you can come to an agreement about breastfeeding in your own family. His concern about breastfeeding being traumatic for your older children is a valid worry for him. You do not seem to feel the same way. Hopefully you can work out a compromise that will make both of you happy. Perhaps arranging a blanket around you while you breastfeed may make him feel more comfortable as he adjusts to being
