Can OBIEE pull data from any SQL tables?
Yes, it can pull data from any data source that can be connected via ODBC. However, we highly recommended structuring data into formats conducive to reporting, creating tables in “star schemas” or “dimensional models.” These models are typically used in reporting/data warehousing but not in transactional systems, where data is usually not structured in a way that makes reporting efficient. OBIEE reporting solutions work best with data warehouses or datamarts, where data from transactional systems is extracted, transformed, and loaded into reporting tables that have been built with dimensional data modeling techniques.
