If experts are to be believed, the exploration of these sources could definitely go a long way in reducing power burden that still depends on traditional energy sources. Interestingly, while the department of physics at Banaras Hindu University is looking for ways to evolve hydrogen energy as cheap energy source under ON Srivastava, other experts in the department of electrical engineering, Institute of Technology, BHU are also looking at other options including energy generation through magneto hydrodynamics (MHD) generators. “These generators are capable of producing electricity, as the ionised gas is made to pass through high intensity magnetic field,” said DN Vishwakarma of the department while talking to TOI on Wednesday. “Though the cost of installation of such generators is more, the low maintenance and operational cost can make it economically viable alternative energy source in the region,” he added.
