CAN NATURAL FISSURES BE REPAIRED?
Please keep in mind that pits and fissures are prevalent in all natural stone. However they usually pose no structural problems. When possible, the fabricator will cut around large fissures, unless it is considered visually desirable by the client. If it is necessary to reinforce a fissure, it is filled with resin filler and also may be reinforced with steel rods on the backside. Fissures have a spider vein appearance. When they are filled with resin they are structurally stronger than the granite itself. If fissures, veining, pits or the natural characteristics of stone are viewed as defects you may want to consider another material entirely or select granite that has less movement.
