Can mycelial products be safely used for augmenting pet health?

Myco Essentials products have been used by many customers as regular supplements for their pets, particularly dogs. The capsule size is easily swallowed by dogs greater than 30 pounds. For smaller dogs and cats, the capsules can be opened and added to the pet’s daily ration of soft food. Alternatively, the uncapsulated bulk preparations can be used. The veterinary literature suggests a positive effect for dogs suffering from lymphoma (i.e., Mushroom-derived maitake PET fraction as single agent for the treatment of lymphoma in dogs. J Vet Intern Med. (2007) 21(6):1409-12; Potential growth inhibitory effect of maitake D-fraction on canine cancer cells. Vet. Ther. 2004 5(4):263-71; see example abstracts for Maitake). As always, individual results may vary and the pet owner should monitor their pet for any rare signs of allergy or intolerance to any new additions or alterations to their pet’s diet.
