Can my parish host a voter registration drive or hold a forum for local candidates?
Yes. Parishes may conduct nonpartisan voter drives. Parishes also may host a forum of local candidates as long as all parties are represented. What should we do after the election is over and the winners take office? We should familiarize ourselves with our representatives policies, positions and contact information. Advocacy (e.g., letters, calls and visits) is essential to informing legislators of church teaching and constituents beliefs. We should make an effort to be informed about major legislation or policies that impact human life and dignity, and voice our support or opposition accordingly.
