Can my nhs dentist make me pay privatley for my 4 year old son to see him?
Yeppp, they can do that. Dental practices and dentists can change from being NHS to private, without telling their patients. I’m 14, and had to have 3 teeth taken out under local, and they told us it was a new dentist because our old one retired. After I’d had them yanked out we went to the desk to book a follow-up appointment or something, and they charged us £90! £30 per tooth, and they didn’t even tell us they’d changed to private, we thought it was still an NHS practice as it has been for the past. So we were forced to pay nearly £100, and hadn’t been told in advance. Stupid, isn’t it? It turned out that our previous dentist hadn’t retired, but had gone to work at another NHS practice because he didn’t believe in private dental care for kids, and so the practice said he either had to be private, or switch. I have to say though, the private guy was so much more gentle than any NHS dentists I’ve seen. Overall now I’ve had 8 teeth taken out under local anaesthetic (6 milk teeth though
