Can my neighbours officially object to me practising my piano?
They can complain to the Enviromental Health, who, like someone said, will set up noise eqipment to record how loud the sound is (it has to be over a certain amount). although they will not do this straightway, you will have letters first and they will find a way of trying to rectify the situation first ( eg, agree times of day you can play….etc). They cab techincally seize your eqippment (but im sure this is actually alast minute thing and bought in for repeat offenders of loud music and not for someon genuinly learning/playing an instrument). Check out The Noise Act 1996……the link is below.
Yes, I’m afraid they can. However from what you are saying it doesn’t look as if you’ve spoken to them about it. If I were you I would approach them about it and get their thoughts on it. If it is a problem to them you may both be able to come up with a solution together. for example if they are out at work at a certain time it may be perfect timing for you to practice. Or it may be that it doesn’t concern them at all in which case at least you’ll know that you can practice in peace without upsetting them and without stressing about it yourself. Good luck – I hope you get it sorted.
