Can my macaw eat mealworms?

0

Macaws are not typically insect eaters – even in the wild, so they may or may not eat them. If he does eat them, it certainly won’t hurt him 🙂 Mealworms are high in protein which is good for birds – just don’t let him eat TOO many. They are high in chitin (their “skin” is chitin) which can block the intestines in large quantities.

There is no harm in giving your bird mealworms, I used to give my Parrots (and Macaws) Crickets also Locust,Mealworms, now and again, prior to breeding as they do take the occasional Insects when breeding and feeding their young <><>

Probably wouldn’t hurt but I’d check with an avian vet. Most Macaw food doesn’t squirm around so it might not eat it anyway…
