Can my iPad multitask?
I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about how the iPad is incapable of multitasking. These complaints are partially verified and partially uncalled for.
A lot of the apps cannot be opened at the same time. You must close one to open another. This is considerably significant because you cannot, for example, listen to music from a music playing app while checking your email. Same with downloads–you can’t mess around on the iPad while waiting for something to download. Once you close out of the application that is downloading to check your Twitter account, the iPad automatically pauses the installation. This hinders the iPad from replacing the computer in business ventures and everyday life because frankly, it’s annoying to have to wait for something to download nowadays without anything to help occupy the time.
However, let’s be honest. We are used to the iPod and iPhone, so why are we surprised? Of course, it is still possible to get your notifications from your Facebook or Words with Friends game while other applications are running in the background, which is more than adequate compared to what we’re used to from the Apple portable devices.
The iPad has not reached a point where it can completely replace the computer for professionals or the technologically savvy. It is meant to be a blown up version of the iPod Touch, and let’s be honest, right now it’s more of a fad than anything else. Everybody wants one! However, when you’re not used to all of the advanced functions our PCs and Macs perform, the lack of multitasking from the iPad is insignificant. But to those of us that are used to our multiple open windows, it is a noticeably frustrating difference. I’ll take one of each, please!
