Yes. You can open a QuarkXPress document even if you do not have Quark ALAP ImagePort loaded. Because QuarkXPress does not inherently understand native Photoshop images, composite printing and separations force QuarkXPress to use the preview image. However, standard QuarkXPress picture controls can be used without the Quark ALAP ImagePort XTensions software loaded.
