Can my Daughter have 2 months off School to go to spain ?

Most school authorities will allow your child to take up to two weeks during the school term as holiday. It would be worth contacting them to see if they are happy to keep your childs place open (if you took two months without consulting them they may offer your childs place to someone else) and if they are happy for you to take work with you or if you would have to put your child into a school over there (Might be worth doing anyway so your little one can make some friends and learn a bit of the language) Speak to your childs current school as a first point of call.

The school has to report attendance, it goes into the OFSTED report and they can only grant 2 week authorised absence so they may not like you going for two months. Talk to the head, they may do something unofficial so on paper she is withdrawn but in reality there is a place waiting for her when she comes back. You could put he into school in Spain – not sure how you would do that if you are not a permanent resident but I do know of a 9 year old who moved to France and was practically fluent in French after 6 weeks.

Hi- I’m a primary school teacher. From my experience, you would need to completely remove your daughter from school and then reapply for a place for her on your return. On this basis, the school then are not obliged to provide her with any work, although I’m sure they would. However, remember that she’d then lose the teaching input that a qualified teacher would provide, and if she’s in Year 2, it’s a very important year as it’s her SATs year. One other thing to bear in mind, is if you have to remove your daughter from the school, then there may actually not be a place for her when you return. This happened to a kid in my class who went to Bangladesh for 2 months, and when she returned her place had been taken by another child! (Parents not pleased, but it was their choice!) I doubt very much that the school would approve 2 months absence and I’m not overly sure whether a school out there would accept her for just 2 months either. You need to consider the fact that your daughter won’t
