Can my child transfer to junior or middle school a year early?

This happens only in exceptional circumstances. The pupil must have completed the appropriate key stage course work at the highest level and have shown exceptional ability throughout. The pupil must also be able to cope with the social situation at the next phase of schooling. It does not necessarily mean that, because a child is ‘top of the class’, he or she should be transferred early. Any request for an early transfer should be sent School Admissions by Saturday, 15 January 2011. You should be aware the legal school-leaving age is not affected by early transfer.
