Can my child read any book they want for their nightly reading homework?

I would prefer that they always read the book they bring home nightly in their homework folder. After the first couple of weeks, the book they bring home will have a dot on it, meaning it is a leveled and appropriate book for their individual reading level. To do their very best reading work, it is important for them to read this book for 15 minutes and complete a book talk question on their reading log. Of course, if they want to read more than just 15 minutes, they can read any other book they want after they have finished their homework reading.
