Can my car really run on recycled vegetable oil?

I don’t recommend trying to run your car on 100% vegetable oil. Vegetable oil suitable for running in a diesel engine has to be processed in order to prevent free fatty acids in the oil clogging the injectors over time. Used oil is worse because it contains a higher proportion of free fatty acids. Also vegetable oil doesn’t contain any of the specialist lubricating additives that are required in diesel fuel to protect the high pressure injection systems used in modern cars. What you can do is to run on a mixture of diesel and vegetable oil. Start off with 20% veg oil to 80% diesel and if your car runs OK then keep increasing the percentage. Personally I wouldn’t go over 50% veg oil but this is a personal preference, give it a try and see how you get on.
