Why does the course travel to Brazil? Brazil is home to the world’s largest forest, its second longest river, and unparalled biological diversity. The country is also experiencing tremendous development pressures. The opportunity to oberve these conflicts first-hand, and to explore innovative solutions in situ makes greatly enhances the classroom learning experience. How come you’re not going back to South Africa or Costa Rica? South Africa and Costa Rica are also awesome places to teach this course, but increased costs and a desire to explore new locations led us to explore Brazil this year. Plus, Costa Rica has a volcano and better beaches. 🙂 Why are classes held in the evenings? To get the most “bang for the buck,” we hold fewer, albeit longer, on-grounds sessions. We can get better rooms in the evenings. Does the class meet after Spring Break? Nope.
