Can MOA Symbols Be Used Alone to Make Resistance Management Decisions?
MOA symbols should NEVER be used alone to make resistance management decisions. Even a product with more than one MOA may not be an effective resistance management tool if only one of the MOAs controls the pest. Instead of relying strictly on MOA symbols, follow this 2-step process: • Review all resistance management recommendations on the product label. Syngenta labels include this information under the “Resistance Management” section and/or in sections dealing with specific crops or pests. Resistance management recommendations are also available in bulletins and on websites maintained by Extension, agricultural chemical companies, and Resistance Action Committees. Detailed resistance management recommendations will indicate how to reduce the potential development of resistant pests and the conditions under which product rotation to a different MOA is needed. In some cases, product rotation is unnecessary. For example, resistance has never developed to chlorothalonil, which has multi-
