Can mastic used to secure plastic tile around bath tub be removed without damage to drywall?

ive removed alot of that type adhesive and its doubtful ,because the mastic is sticking to the paper thats on the drywall so its bound to tear off when tile that was stuck to the wall is removed. i’ll share with you what i have always done , i was a painter and repairman for over 30 years, actually still am. anyway, i dont know for sure what your project is . If you are removing tile, maybe on a bathroom wall and you want to bring the surface back to smooth. listen to my advice. first understand that drywall has a paper face, so when you remove the garbage that is left after removing the tiles , you will end up with a scarred wall .dont worry ,it can be fixed. now back to the beginning :get a wallpaper scraper (be careful ,its a sharp blade) and scrape of all that you can . whatever is left should be minor ,then sand with 50 grit sand paper and then seal the area of damage with a primer -sealer -kilz oil base works ( open a window for ventilation).once kilz is dry (45 minutes) hand san
