The liver performs specific functions relating to thyroid hormones (activation, deactivation, metabolism, and transport). Hypothyroidism has been associated in some cases with reduced bilirubin and bile excretion. So basically, the liver and the thyroid work together in a system and if one has problems it can cause problems for the other. I have included a link below that explores the issue in greater detail.
