Can liver transplant be used to treat secondary cancer in the liver?

Liver transplant is a viable treatment for patients with end-stage liver disease. It isn’t a useful treatment for cancer that has spread and caused secondary tumours in the liver. This is because the immunosuppressant drugs given after transplant to control rejection, will ‘turn down’ your immune system’s ability to remove abnormal cells and so can cause any remaining pockets of cancer to grow at an accelerated rate.
