Can liquid vaseline/petrolatum contain aromatic hydrocarbons?
Yes, there is a small amount of aromatic hydrocarbon content in petrolatum / petroleum jelly. In fact, the authors in the paper below found they could distinguish different brands of petrolatum based on amount and type of aromatic content by means of an analytical technique they have developed. However, “aromatic” does not necessarily mean “toxic”.
