Can Lafley change P&Gs bureaucratic culture to work on Internet time?
P&G has gone though a lot of changes in the past few years, especially in the 90’s. It had some management problems seeing how the company changed management with a turn over of 2 years and cut thousands of jobs. However, I believe Lafley can turn P&G’s bureaucratic structure around. With any bureaucratic structure it takes a lot of time, but its a “rational and efficient form of organization.” I do not think that every single small decision should have to go to upper management, because it seems too time consuming. Also, there are some small decisions that people should be able to make on their own. One of Jager’s flaws was that he became really anti-bureaucratic and moved very quickly after seeing how slow bureaucracy worked. By cutting jobs and getting away from a “country-based approach to that of product categories,” he created a shock to the company and consumers.
