Can l lay new turf on top my old?
Hi, Whilst strictly speaking I agree with the previous answers that you should do it properly for the best results, in a previous garden, before I knew anything about gardening, we had exactly the same problem as you. The lawn was just generally tired from kids and dogs and needed a face lift. We leveled and filled in dips and general unevenness, and watered it all very well and then laid the new one on top. We were careful to ensure it has no chance of drying out, and that did take some commitment, but only as much as was needed to make sure the sprinkler was on. The results were fine, and I’ve got to say, I’d do it again if necessary. I think in a situation where there are endless weeds in the original turf, you’re just asking for them to grow up through the new layer, but having said that, conscientious use of a glyphosate weedkiller could sort that out. Just be sure to wait until the weedkiller has become inactive before putting down the new turf. Happy gardening whatever you decid
