Can koi eat garden worms?

Just like people they also have a sense of taste. Koi in a pond will eat more algaes and plant life, but will eat bugs and worms. If you are feeding pellets and not allowing them to eat natural items it may take them a while. Maggots are fine, larve are fine for your fish. Try holding the worm half way in the water and moving it around during feeding time. I am not sur ehow large your koi are but at feeding time they aren’t that particular and will grab anything…not that they will eat it, but they will grab it.

You are not supposed to feed your koi maggots, since they decompose dead meat tissues… but earthworms are supposed to be okay… They will eat many other things than just pellets, but when they are introduced to something new they kind of shy away from it for the first while until they realize that it is not a threat but a treat!
