This option exists, in principle. Your local School Council will be able to provide you with further information about this. Requests for this within the city of Zurich are likely to be approved. However, if the parents live outside the city of Zurich and want to send their children to pre-schools within the city, it may prove to be more difficult to seek approval for this since their local authority will have to pay for the place at pre-school. There are out-of-school club facilities (providing care over lunchtime and on days when the kindergarten is closed) at the kihz’s day nurseries, provided there are sufficient spaces available, and the mealtimes must correspond to those of the pre-school. This out-of-school care will continue to be subsidised by Zurich City Council and by the universities.
