Can JPG or MP3 files be used for carrier files by viruses?
One of the most widely spread myths among computer users is that JPG files can be used by viruses for carrier files. But these files don’t contain executable code and that’s why even if a virus copies itself to a JPG file, the file won’t be able to spread the infection to other files or computers without the help of other programs.File infectors infect files because they will be able to spread the virus. Then there’s just no purpose of creating a virus which infects JPG files because it will be unable to propagate.Only an year ago nobody believed that a virus which infects JPG files will be ever written. But it happened…W32.Perrun was created, the first known virus to infect JPG files. There is absolutely no purpose of doing that but it infects them.As you already know, only the infected JPG files can’t spread Perrun to other systems. For now JPG files can’t be used by viruses for carrier files, but who knows, maybe after years everything will be different. It may become the same as what it is
