Can Joe McElderry put a foot wrong?
While Danyl seems to have failed to capitalise on his initial popularity, Joe McElderry has surprised everyone, including the judges, with the maturity and depth of his performances so far, which he managed to accomplish without compromising his youthful charm and that radiant almost gullible honesty with which he carries himself on stage. I recognised that Joe was a very good singer with a finalist potential when I watched his audition back in August. But to be a worthy contender with a fair shot at a career in the music business it is not enough to deliver a note perfect performance every week, otherwise nearly every professional backing singer in the business could claim the laurels. Joe has good looks, but he’s not strikingly handsome in the eye-candy sense, which would automatically thrust him into the teen heartthrob league and generate record sales based on his pin-up factor alone.
