The problem with your theory is that your conspiracy would have to be too large to work. The planet Mars has been observed ever since the telescope has been invented and the first signs of “life” were a mistake made by the poor instruments. If you study a modern telescopic image of Mars you don’t see the canals, the lens we use now days are better than those used by Percival Lowell.
