Can Islam combat the rise of homophobia, misogyny and racism?

It could, but not any more than Christianity. There are cultures in the world that adopted Islam, but the practices of these cultures are of the culture and not of the religion, like in Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Afghanistan, who follow the Wahhabi tradition of resisting change and maintaining the “old ways” of living in a similar manner as the Amish have in the US and Canada, only their culture is much older, so their practices seem much more antiquated to us in the west. I want to point out that the terrorists and extremists of al Queda are predominantly of the Wahabbi tradition, and not of other more liberal cultures that have adopted Islam.
