Can information be hidden in an MP3 file identifying its source?
Technically, no. Using ID3V2 tags information can be embedded in an MP3 file to identify all sorts of information. Anyone with a sophisticated MP3 tag editor could see the information. Also, usually this information is stored in text format so you could look at the raw file with a hex editor and read everything textual in it. There are ways to embed information that is encrypted that could identify anything you want but it isn’t protected from deletion in any way. Some people are working on ways to embed source information in an MP3 file so that it’s protected from being altered but it would probably require a modification to the MP3 specification.
