Can in-home family therapy services (IFT) be provided outside the home?
The rules do not specify that the service cannot be provided outside the home. However, the intent of the service remains to maintain a cohesive family unit and the therapeutic interventions on behalf of the child and family must reflect that intent. The TCM case file documentation must clearly explain the individualized family situation of the child, the SED diagnosis and the medical necessity of providing the IFT outside of the home and any other pertinent information that would justify providing the service outside of the home.
