Can IAT read PNG (Portable Network Graphics) files?
Again – no. Sun ceased development on the JDK 1.1.8 APIs and the PNG format is not supported in pre-Java-2 environments. About Signed Applets, Network Security, and IAT: I´ve learned which preference change in Sun´s HotJava Browser allows IAT to access other URL from the website as opposed to downloading the applet in order to access the URLs from one’s desktop. You don´t have to download the applet unless you have a really slow connection. This is good news – because you (and I) don´t have to go through any Signed Applet hoops in order to use the IAT applet from this website. See the Real World Operability section of the IATindex file for the preference change that makes it work. The HotJava, iCab (Mac), Navigator, and Internet Explorer browsers treat Java Applet Security in different manners, so IAT doesn’t yet support applet signing and file saving.
