Can I withhold rent because Sleepwell isn properly maintaining my building or unit?
Sleepwell has an excellent reputation for providing their tenants with fast and efficient repair services, so this should not be an issue. However, if you feel your maintenance needs are not being met, you are not allowed to withhold your rent payments in accordance with the RTA (Residential Tenancies Act). If a tenant withholds rent, Sleepwell can give the tenant a notice of termination for non-payment of rent and then file an application to evict the tenant. To ensure that this does not become an issue, it is important to submit your service/repair requests to the Sleepwell office in writing as soon as possible.
