Can I use yogurt with probiotic bacteria as starter in a yogurt machine?

My Grandma uses yogurt with probiotic bacteria as a starter for making her own yogurt without a machine. Her nutritionist taught her how to do it.

The word “probiotic” covers a wide range of things, and any yogurt with live cultures could call itself “probiotic”. Yogurt was probiotic before they decided that slapping the label “probiotic” allowed them to charge more for the same thing. The yogurt you get out is not going to have the same ratio of different bacillus strains as the commercial product, because of different growing temperatures, different ways of adjusting the sugar levels, etc. But it will contain at least some of them, and it’ll taste great.
