Can I use Windows Defender or Microsoft Security Essentials as standalone security packages on Vista?

You can use Security Essentials, it is an anti-virus and anti-malware/spyware. It will automatically turn off Defender if it is on. It’s recommended if you use Microsoft Security Essentials that you have no other anti-spyware or anti-virus running at the same time. It appears to be a very good program, it’s what I’ve been using now even though I have a paid subscription to another program. I like that Security Essentials is not a resource hog and it DOESN’T ANNOY YOU. It just does it’s job. No matter what security programs you use though you still have to use good judgment with what you’re doing and downloading online and what free crap you’re installing on your computer.
