The Tria device is not suitable for use on dark skin. To ensure that the system is not accidentally (or deliberately) used on dark skin, there is a sensor built into it. You place the sensor on the skin and the device will only be unlocked if your skin is within the correct range. Using this type of laser on dark skin will put you at risk of burning and scarring your skin, so do not try this at home if you have medium brown skin or darker.
