You have to position yourself correctly under the bar to make sure you don’t force range of motion in ways that can cause injuries, especially with heavier weights. The Smith Machine also balances the weight for you, working your muscles less than free weight Squats. • Leg Press. Same problems. Your pelvis can also tilt backwards when going deep which can cause your lower back to round (and thus back pain or worse hernias in the long-term).
