Can I use the SlingboxTM with an Apple TV, an iPod, Front Row or the iPhone?
The Slingbox is an innovative Digital Video Recording (DVR) device for recording television programs that can be accessed remotely from any Internet-enabled computer. It functions just like Tivo or similar DVR technology provided by your cable company, except that you can view your DVR recordings even when you’re not at home.
Slingbox supports numerous Apple products for watching shows recorded on its device.
iPhone/iPod: Slingbox provides its own Slingplayer Mobile for iPhone application. It can be purchased through the Apple iPhone Applications Store, or directly off of slingbox.com. Slingplayer also works on the iPod Touch – though not on the Nano or older-generation iPods, as the iPod Touch is currently the only iPod model with wireless Internet access and, therefore, the only model that can contact your Slingbox remotely.
Note that iPod Touch access to your Slingbox requires access to an available wi-fi network, as the iPod Touch does not support 3G connectivity through a cellular network.
Apple TV: The Slingplayer application that ships with the Slingbox has supported Apple TV since April 2007. You will need to hook your Apple TV up to your Slingbox using component video cables, and add your Apple TV as a video source in the Slingplayer application. See slingbox.com for more details.
Front Row: Front Row is a media center application that runs under Apple’s MacOX operating system. It was introduced onto the market with the iMac G5 back in 2005. Currently, two Slingbox models – the SlingBox PRO and Slingbox AV – can be used on a Macintosh with Front Row installed. Your Macintosh must have an infrared port in order for Slingbox to operate.
