A. This product was developed as a single tube screen for non-lactose-fermenting, oxidase-negative, enteric pathogens isolated from stool specimens. A positive lysine deaminase and/or strongly positive urea will immediately rule out Salmonella and Shigella species. A weak positive urea with a negative lysine deamination, no H2S and no gas should be investigated further as a possible Yersinia enterocolitica.
