Thermodynamic traps can be used very successfully on compressed air systems, especially if the air is dirty or oily, but it is imperative they are selected correctly. It is not possible to use the TD steam trap on compressed air as it will tend to air bind closed. The correct trap to use is the Airodyn compressed air trap which is specifically designed for the purpose. Further information on the Airodyn can be found on the Spirax Sarco technical information sheet TI-P148-11.
