No, Filtrete (TM) Thermostat from 3Ms run on 3 Volts (2 x 1.5 volt batteries), and the “Battery Low” indicator comes on at about 2.6 volts. The thermostat stops working at about 2.5 Volts. Two AA or AAA rechargeable batteries only put out 2.2 volts, which means that there maximum power level is too low to operate the thermostat.
