Can i use non tropical plants for my hermit crab?

If you get the live plant established and well rooted before you introduce the hermit crabs they will have less of a chance to tear it up by burrowing, so have a deep enough substrate to they can burrow as well as enjoy the live plants for nutrition, make shure you plant non toxic varieties and organic grown seedlings to avoid toxic sprays intended for insects that will also kill hermit crabs. Live collected thick mats of moss are a hermit crabs dream, mine pick through the moss for hours, I never have had insect problems. The maple branch is an excellent idea, just no pine or cedar, as pine and cedar is toxic, Maple is just fime only be sure that the branch id rough enough so they can climb on it with out slipping off, < i would keep it simple with cloves, moss and a maple climbibg stick, it will be a nice forest tank, use eco forest as your substrate, to keep the substrate deep enough, use 2 bricks in a 10 gallon tank, 4 for a 20 gallon tank. This will be great for humidity too.
