Can I use my PayPower Prepaid Card at hotels, gas stations, restaurants or car rentals?

It depends on the merchant. When you use your card at any of these types of merchants or any other service oriented merchant, it’s called a “pre-authorization”. That means the total amount due is unknown. The merchant has the right to authorize more than the transaction amount (i.e., an additional 20% at restaurants for a tip). The merchant also has the right to hold funds on your card. In order to avoid these types of holds, we recommend that you prepay for your gas and that you call hotels and rental car companies first to inquire about their prepaid card policy.
