Can i use mulit-purpose gear oil as Bar Oil for my chainsaw?

As a chainsaw owner (Husqvarna and Echo) it’s best to use official chain bar oil because it will not sling off the chain when you’re sawing really big stuff. Any Lowes (Husqvarna) or Home Depot (Echo) has their name brand chain oil. Many lawn mower dealers and major hardware stores has Stihl chain bar oil also which is excellent. All the above chain bar oils have the consistency of old fashioned STP, sticky as merry hell. In my opinion you do have a good idea as gear oil is nearly as thick as chain bar oil plus it has a lot of EP (extreme pressure) additives which will save both your bar and chain. *Don’t get caught dead using regular motor oil, new or used regardless of viscosity. It’ll sling off the chain and will not protect the bar and chain as well as your plan.
