Yes, Hardibacker can be used as a fireplace facing. Our Hardibacker 1/4″ backerboard can be used as a component in a 1-hour fire resistive construction when installed in compliance with National Evaluation Report NER-405. Hardibacker and Hardibacker G2 underlayments are recognized as non-combustible, when tested according to ASTM E 136.
