Can I use GGKs worlds in role-playing games/fanfiction?
Many people have asked about the possibility of using GGK’s worlds/characters in either fanfiction, or in online role-playing/computer/video games. Considerately, they have asked about permission for such things, and what GGK thinks of them. Obviously there is nothing to stop someone from using the name of one of GGK’s characters as their handle in an online situation. However, when it comes to things like fanfic and creating games etc, issues of copyright arise. GGK can’t, and wouldn’t, give permission for such things because of the problems they’d create for him. Copyright law means that authors (copyrightholders) have sole right to create and license derivative works. That means that any fanfic or role playing etc that uses characters or worlds, (but not themes) is illegal for profitable publication. It would be unwise, also, for explicit permission to be given by the copyrightholder even in case of non-profit publication.
